It wasn't one of his favorite places to go really but his mom really wanted him to go out and socialize. When he refused, she sent him out and locked the door. She was really serious about this. Tough love as she called it. Just something one should get used to he supposed.
Ryuu had no idea what he would do here. The place was huge and the only time he ever came was if he had to. And besides that, he wasn't one to socialize anyway. It would seem he would be stuck with just walking around the place. He closed his eyes and sighed. "This is going to be fun..."
He walked around with his hands in his pockets, looking about himself to see the smiling faces of others as they enjoyed their shopping. Ryuu honestly couldn't understand what was so fun about this. People were just spending their money on useless stuff they would soon regret. 'Guess it's their problem...'
Besides the smiling faces, he also saw faces of judgment. Yeah, people some people were watching him. Curious about him. He returned their stares with a simple glance of boredom. It was another thing he didn't understand. Did people forget what respect meant? It was rude to stare. Or at least that's what he was taught. Thinking about what they were calculating about him was a little irritating. Perhaps he was just being ridiculous. Perhaps they were not even looking at him. While he wanted to believe it, he couldn't. There had been too many of these sort of experiences in his past.
All this thinking was just making things worse. He decided to try and get his mind of things and try browsing some store instead of looking like some lost idiot walking about. With that thought in mind, Ryuu entered the nearest store and looked around. It was a clothing store. While he obviously wasn't looking for clothes, he decided to look around anyway. Maybe he might surprise himself and find some clothes he might like.
ooc; sorry if it's a little hard to reply to. I'm not that good with opening posts.

stares, stares, and more stares. that's all sullen got whenever he came here. Armed with his trusty stuffed Raptor, the eight-year-old trudged through the mall, not watching where he was going. Every so often, he'd look up to see people staring at the former circus clown oddly, and maybe some self-centered teenager laughing at him. That would make him sniffle and walk faster through the place. Currently, he was looking for a place to eat, as most malls had a food court, right? He hoped this one did. As he trudged through the mall, keeping his eyes to the ground, he got bumped into, cussed at, and called a freak. Shaking his head, he only continued to walk along, trying to keep out of people's ways.

His little browse was nothing like he'd hoped. None of the clothes were even his style. Quite frankly, he didn't think they would suit anyone's style. But apparently people liked it, the place was crowded. His golden eyes narrowed and he made his way towards the exit.
As he was about to leave, he heard some conversation nearby. Two teens were talking about something they had saw. "Man, that kid was a total freak." He raised a brow, listening more. "I know, right?! It looked so weird!" Ryuu couldn't believe these people. But that's how the world was. He pitied this kid, whoever they were. He walked pass the two, fighting himself to not get involved. His mother said to socialize but he didn't think fighting with some kids in the mall would make her happy.
He continued forth into the mall, looking for a better place to browse. So far, no luck. But he did happen to hear more of this kid. Some were a little surprised, others joked. The kid couldn't be that bad, right? He shook that from his mind and ignored everyone else. He wondered when it would be safe to return home. This little outing was not all that fun and he was ready for it to end.

all the stares, all the pain it reminded him of the dreaded dark woods circus. Pace quickening, Sullen tried to ignore the voices of those in the mall, not watching on where his feet moved, and not watching who he bumped into. Bare feet hitting the cold floor of the mall, he tightened his hold on the stuffed Raptor, eventually coming to a stop once he reached a large fountain. When your only three-foot-eleven, everything is quite big to you. Ignoring the jeering and complaining of the teenager, he sat himself down on the edge of it, over-sized sweater slipping off his shoulders, revealing stitching - the stitching that once connected him to his sister. Their rudeness did not stop, as soon, he ended up in the fountain, coughing and nearly choaking on the water. Every time he tried to get back up onto the edge, they would push him back into the fountain. Is this my punishment..? for escaping the circus..?

Ryuu continued his way forward and could see the fountain ahead. Maybe he could just sit there and think. Walking around was starting to grow tiring.
It wasn't long before he reached the fountain. Instead of finding himself in a calm and somewhat peaceful area, he found some jerks trying to drown a kid in the fountain. His eyes widened in shock. "Hey!" he yelled only to be ignored. On an impulse, he ran forward and jumped into the situation, pushing them aside and fighting back anyone who dared. Though he didn't look so tough, he was pretty strong, especially when angered like this. One of these bullies learned that the hard way with a punch to the face. "What the hell do you think you guys are doing?!"
Ryuu pushed them away and turned to the soaked victim. He jumped in the fountain and knelt down next to him. "Hey kid. Are you okay?" He would shoot a sharp glance to the guys from before then turn back to the kid with a sympathetic look. If this kid was hurt, these guys had better be prepared. They were in for some trouble. So much for not getting into a fight.

gasping for the air he needed, he looked up at Ryuu and blinked. His face paint dripped down his face and onto his pure-white sweater. Sullen climbed out back onto the ledge he shook his head, to get some of the water out of his hair. Coughing slightly, the deformed child looked back at him and nodded a bit. Clearing his tiny throat, he looked down and opened his mouth to speak in that tiny, squeaky voice of his, "Y-yes.." he began, "T-than-nk you.." One of his tiny hands went up and he rubbed the dripping face paint away from his large, ocean blue eyes, doing the same to the other before letting it drip into the fountain again. No use in keeping it on.

He was relieved to find the kid wasn't hurt. But still that had to be a frightening experience. He fought himself not to even look at those jerks again but lost, luckily, they had gone. Bored of their little game now he supposed.
When the boy thanked him, he looked back and nodded with a slight smile as to not frighten the boy any more than he already was. "No problem." He hadn't really noticed it before but now saw that the boy was covered in stitches and paint. He must have been the one the others were talking about before. While the boy looked a little strange, he wasn't one to judge someone by appearance. They were all equal. If only people would understand that.
He was still worried about the kid and knew he had to be cold from that. He knew his legs were freezing and he hadn't even been in there long. Ryuu got out of the fountain and looked back to the boy before pulling off his jacket and holding it out to him. "You might not want to catch a cold. Your parents might not like that." he said with a slight chuckle. Yeah, he wasn't sure if all parents were like that but his mom seemed to get mad every time he got sick.
Ryuu looked around thinking about what he just said. Where were his parents? He looked back to the boy with a brow raised. "You here alone?" It was strange. This kid looked a little young to be out on his own. And he would hate to leave this kid alone after what just happened. Apparently he was a target around here.

Sullen's voice cracked slightly when he spoke, refusing the jacket. His eyes were still glued onto the edge of the edge of the fountain, ".... I don't have parents; the closest.. I've had.." he shook his head and looked up a bit, rubbing at the stitching on his neck. Sullen preferred not to talk of the Chairman, as he was 'ten meters tall with glowing eyes', and rather scary. He hadn't any mercy for those in his circus, and Sullen had just been in the wrong place, at the wrong time when he was taken in by him, as well as his sister - who still claims the circus was 'fun and exciting, and that they shouldn't of left.

Again the boy seemed to be a little cautious. Did he think he might hurt him? Ryuu was troubled by the thought but managed to keep his feelings unknown.
He listened to the boy's explanation but it was cut short. Ryuu raised a brow again entirely curious. But he decided not to push him into saying anything about it. He seemed a little sensitive about the subject.
Ryuu tossed his rejected jacket over his shoulder and waited for the boy to say something or run. But he didn't do nothing but just seemed lost in thought. He left him alone for a moment before the silence got a little awkward. "Oh, I'm Ryuu by the way. Nice to meet you." He didn't put out a hand or ask for the kids name. He had a feeling he probably wouldn't reply to it anyway.
Perhaps changing the subject might work well. "So what are you up to? Looking for something?" He was a little worried his efforts in calming the kid down were only making things worse. He was never really good with kids. Never been around them, well besides school but he never talked to them really.
If the boy was indeed looking for something, maybe Ryuu could help. It'll give him something to do and he would be socializing like he was required to do if he ever wished to return home.

"I'm Sullen." His voice cracked a bit and he looked down again, arms wrapped tightly around that Raptor. Sullen's eyes drifted to the water, and he stared at it; the colors of his facepaint had remained in it, swirling in the water as he watched it. Snapping his head back up at Ryuu's voice, he blinked a bit. What was he up to? Not even the former clown knew. Tilting his head, he answered, "I was just looking for the food court - if this place has one. I'm.. hunrgy." Silently, he hoped it didn't serve 'rotting apples, to dissolve his eyes.' and the like.

Sullen? That was a strange name for a kid. He probably would have blurted this out to the boy but thankfully was able to bite his tounge before it got out. Saying that surely wouldn't help the situation.
While he waited for his answers, he looked over the boy once more. Another thing he noticed was the toy dinosaur he held tightly. Yeah, Ryuu tried to think of what they called it. He used to be into dinosaurs big time as a child. Now they were a mere memory of the past.
His answer came and he thought about it. He wasn't ever at the mall much but he thought he recalled seeing a food court here somewhere. Now where it was he wasn't quite sure. This place was huge!
"Yeah they've got one. Not positive where it's at but it's here." He looked around for one of those huge maps they usually had around. Farther down he caught sight of one. "If you want I can help you find it. I've got nothing better to do so it wouldn't be any trouble."
He was surprising himself by how much he cared. Usually he would have probably been gone by now. But he knew if he left this defenseless child alone he would feel guilty about it later.

Sullen stared for a second before nodding a bit. He swung his legs over the edge of the fountain and stood up, gaining little height from that. People usually looked smaller when they were sitting, right? Well, Sullen looked small any time of the day. Still, he didn't smile at this boy's act of kindness; it was impossible for him to smile, due to the circus. "Yeah.. I'd like that.." he mumbled.

So far so good. At least he wouldn't have to worry about him being beaten up again now. "Alright let's go this way. There's a map over here." He pointed toward the direction and started off, making sure to go a little slowly. The boy was shorter than him so maybe he should avoid making him run to keep up. He smirked at the thought.
When they reached the map, he looked for the red 'X' first to see where they were. Once he found it, he looked for the food court. Ryuu poked the map with a finger and trailed his way to the location. It was not as close as he hoped but not as bad as he thought it would be either.
"Okay... It looks like it's up on the next floor..." He looked down to find some maps they could take for which he was thankful. He didn't think he would remember it all.
Ryuu looked back to the larger map and pointed to the elevators a not to far from where they were. "We've got to get here first. Then once we get up on the next floor we just have a short walk till we get to the food court." Ryuu looked back down to Sullen with a smile, "Ready?"

Sullen followed, bare feet nearly sticking to the ground and causing for near-falling. He had to stand on his tippy-toes to look at the map and he blinked his blue eyes, tilting his head every so slightly, a curious look on his face. When Ryuu began to speak, he directed his blue-eyed gaze up at him and nodded slightly. Next floor? Sounds too far for him. He sighed softly and nodded again, looking back up at him. Sullen looked over at the elevators Ryuu had directed him too and blinked at them. Looking back up at him, he stared for a second before nodding, though a question escaped his lips, ".. What's.. an elevator?" he asked, tilting his head off to the side. He had grown up in the circus, where they sat in cages, and were pulled by horses to get around, never in his short life.. had he seen an elevator.

He had noticed Sullen was a little dissapointed with the distance. He honestly couldn't blame him. That was a long walk for a little kid.
Ryuu looked out for the elevators but was interrupted by Sullen's voice. He was asking what an elevator was. Was he serious? He looked down his brown cocked in a questioning look. By the looks of it, he was serious, as strange as it seemed.
He wasn't sure how to explain it really. He'd never been faced with the question. "Well... It's like a small room you step into and inside on the wall is buttons for each floor. You push one for the floor you want and it takes you there. If that makes any sense..."
He wasn't sure if the explanation was really good enough. "Maybe seeing it for yourself would be easier to understand." he finished with a nervous chuckle.
